A New Wii Saddle?

A new peripheral for the Wii was discovered in a European patent database. It describes the peripheral as an inflatable saddle designed from foam or some other material and will come equipped with a 1 way air valve of conventional design.

The Wii remote will fit into a slot or pocket situated on the saddle for accelerometer detection. The nun chucks are to be used as reins, and depending on the game; could be used as a raised hand for bronco riding, a lasso and a sword. In the patent there are statements that mention the different types of animals and imaginary creatures the saddle will be used for: Bulls, camels, elephants, burros, dolphins, whales, dragons, griffins, unicorns, and giant eagles.

The patent also suggests the saddle could also double as a seat for various vehicles like a hang glider, numerous types of aircraft, a magical carpet, motorcycle, jet ski, and a form of land/sea exploration vehicle.

Genyo Takeda has been listed as one of the inventors. Imagine the types of games that could be created solely for this saddle if it ever gets developed. Filing a patent is usually the second step after the design has been finalized, and there's no telling if this will be the final design. This could be a long process in the making assuming that it will even get developed. Stay tuned..
